Queer Fest - São Paulo, Brazil

Queer Fest I
São Paulo, Brazil
March 10, 11

Line-Up Change, 3-3-07

Release In English

There are many distinctive and personal reasons to create this event, but something in common made us unite forces. We could make a list of infinite reasons, at first we could briefly say this: (bi, homo, trans) sexuals - libertarians and autonomous.

The Queerfest will be a day to celebrate diversity, choose other ways that are not the ones that was imposed upon us. We don’t want only the marriage or the heterosexuality, not even make part of the majority, neither to pass unnoticed nor feel alone. On the contrary, we demand other sexualities and identities.

We don’t agree with the ideal “hetero” model. The Latin Sexual culture reserved to us a dark place of guilty and shame, and today with the proliferation in our country of the quantity of spaces exclusively for gays and lesbians, etc. it’s not difficult to realize that there is a tendency of “gaytification” and the assimilation of all symbols from the capitalistic society. All of this serves to feed the “homopathetic” media industrial culture, designed as a form to assimilate all the revolutionary possibilities of the queer movement.

We united our forces based in a libertarian culture through the “do it yourself” politics and created the Queerfest. A new political view for diversity.

Once the spectacle society continues to dominate using human misery and speak in our names, like political parties, central comitees or waiting for the blessing of pope or from the State we won’t be able to raise the flag of any kind of pride.

Yes! We are perverted, misfits and inverted. Be a hero, be a marginal, be a sexual! Once we can’t dance, then this will not be our revolution. You’re your identity, you are your gender, you are the Queerfest! Queerfest is all of us!
