Jaffa Recommends - Skinjobs

SkinjobsWe’re queer and we’re recruiting!

It’s a call to arms by a band with an authoritative voice. Powerful anthems for the queer and the gender fucked. A decree to Burn Your Rainbow and be more than ‘color-by-numbers.’

I first heard of this band on a fan page on myspace. They only had two songs on their page, and up until I was finally able to pick up their album at Benways in Santa Monica had I heard any more than those. But from that first song I heard on I was a fan.

I’m actually listening to their album, titled Burn Your Rainbow, as I write this. Songs of queer crusades, identity, and gender bending make up most of this completely amazing indie punk album. Alongside the outstanding music are spoken word pieces; most of which written by others within the queer community. All of this together makes for a very powerful album.

Unfortunately, as happens with many bands, the Skinjobs are no more. But you can still find their album online if you know where to look. CDBaby, Spitshine Records, Bongo Beat, and Agit-Prop all offer the album. Hell, you can even find it on the iTunes store if you have it. So there’s no excuse not to check this band out. Even if they’re dead and gone, their music lives on and means no less than before.
