For your listening pleasure - a brand spanking new Minus the Bear track:
Suicide Squeeze press release after the jump.
Greetings from the bang(a)rang! A number of us have just completed the first edition of our newest zine about radical queer history. This zine has been in the works since a queer history workshop at the Maine Social Forum in the Summer of 2006 and was completed recently in the Winter of 2007 as we are all inside hiding from the mountains of snow and ice.
It contains a collection of radical queer moments throughout the United States ranging from ACT UP and Gay Shame to Out of Control Lesbians and Homocore. The booklet contains almost 30 stories of intentionally erased and ignored histories, including that of punks very very queer roots…
To download booklet: click here!
It is designed as a booklet and should be printed double sided…
If you do not have a good printer available, please contact us by email at thebangarang(((at)))riseup.net or find our address on the website.
xo!

Alright, after a week’s break to take care of some personal stuff it’s time for a double-feature Jaffa Recommends!
First up,
Jaffa Recommends - Festimi Emimi
I remember first hearing about the two-piece Festimi Emimi on some myspace group board thing or whatever. The title was “ATTENTION ALL HOMOPUNX” and, so, of course I gave them a chance.
I have a special place in my heart for lo-fi recordings. As much as we’re now used to highly polished recordings, expecting so much out of even small band EPs, it’s bad ass to hear a band just hit record on a cassette player and jam the shit out of a song. It’s rad, it’s raw, and it’s totally queer.
Any fans of blast beats, street punk, or plain lo-fi should check out their EP which is now available (tape only) for two bucks (”or a nice trade”). Check out their site or myspace for more detail.
And now for a band that I’ve been wanting to talk about for a while now, and can’t explain why I haven’t already. I dig this band a lot:
Jaffa Recommends - Hey There Cowboy!
Formerly Central Standard (very recently changed their name it seems), this band is just outright fun. Very tongue in cheek approach to their music and lyrics. I love it so hard.
I’ve pretty much said all I need to say about this band. Their music is fun and awesome. Check them out. Man, I feel like I’m coping them out in this review. But they are amazing, and that’s all there is too it.

The site has been kind of heavy lately so I’m going to lighten up a little. Watch this video:
It doesn’t really need to be said that the military establishment sucks donkey balls. Recently, a general telling the press that gays are immoral, and now an Army recuriter going ape shit via e-mail. It seems that the shit is flowing all the way down to the recruitment sector.

UPDATE:
According to The Chicago Tribune via TowleRoad, the Army has suspended the Sargent recruiter accused of making the homophobic slurs.
“Douglas Smith, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Recruitment Command at Ft. Knox, Ky., said Ramode has been suspended from recruiting duties until the investigation is complete. Although he couldn’t comment on Ramode’s actions because of the investigation, Smith said recruiters are expected to behave professionally and that there is a protocol for handling situations when applicants reveal that they are gay. ‘If an applicant makes a statement that he or she is homosexual, the recruiter must inform the applicant in a professional manner that they are not eligible for enlistment,’ Smith said in a statement.”
A church that protests military funerals across the United States, claiming the deaths are God’s punishment for a country that harbors gays, is facing possible restrictions in its home state of Kansas.
A bill that keeps protesters at least 150 feet from a funeral was sent to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday. She is expected to sign it.
“Kansas families will finally have some modicum of privacy as they bury their dead,” said Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt.
The small fundamentalist congregation pickets burials of U.S. troops killed in combat and says the protests are a form of religious expression protected by the U.S. Constitution. In response, at least 32 states have enacted laws restricting funeral protests, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Continue reading ‘Anti-Phelps bill goes to Kansas governor’
Hi Everyone!
I’ve decided to shut down the message board once and for all. It’s getting spammed like crazy and it seems only 2 people are actively posting. I’m tired of it.
If you want to post something, register here and post it here. Registered users will be able to comment on the post as well.
Also, I’ve added a DIGG function to the stories. I encourage all of you to digg a story if you like it. There’s also other sharing functions as well. I’m exploring other features for the website that would have more of a web 2.0 feel as well as a community. I’m open to any suggestions as well.
One more thing - A podcast is coming soon with interviews from rockstars.
Much love
Adam
Hi viewers!
Here’s an update from Pansy Division:
Hi Pansy Division fans,
We have a few things on tap Pansy-wise that we wanted to share with you.
1. First off, we’re having a show in San Francisco, the first one in over a year! We are playing Saturday, April 21, at Cafe du Nord, 2370 Market Street. We are opening for The Avengers; it’s a 21+ show, $12; doors at 8:30, first band at 9. The opening band will be Southern Girls, featuring ex-Pansy Patrick Goodwin. Luis & Joel, of course, will be doing double duty playing that night with The Avengers as well as PD. To buy advance tickets, go to www.cafedunord.com.
Luis & Joel also play in The Plus Ones, and they are playing their own show at Cafe du Nord the previous night, April 20.
2. Also in April: our first recording session in almost five years! We are going to record a handful of new songs, though there’s no clear plan for a future release. We hope to play some of the new ones at the du Nord show.
