The story of these five women who came together under the flag of Punk-Fucking-Rock is nothing short of astounding. Tracy Flannigan’s documentary on the antics and trials of the San Francisco dyke punk band Tribe 8 brings us into the lives Lynn Breedlove, Silas Howard, Slade Bellum, Lynn ‘Tantrum’ Payne, and Leslie Mah.
Told through interviews, high energy imagery and music we’re told the story of women just trying to have fun. But once you scratch the surface we find that each woman’s personal lives are laced with hardships as individual as each of them. Sobriety, race and gender issues, being ostracized by your peers, and losing loved ones. These are the stories that make this doc all the more worth watching.
Great music, energetic editing, and a healthy helping of live performance footage (not to mention on-stage male-to-female blowjobs) combined with the interesting lives of the women involved make this a documentary definately worth checking out.
